Dog Elected Mayor of Minnesota City

A 9-year-old Great Pyrennes, was re-elected Aug. 21 as the honorary mayor of Cormorant Township in northwestern Minnesota. This will be Duke’s third one-year term, after he was first elected in 2014. The big, white shaggy dog was overwhelmingly re-elected at the sixth annual Cormorant Daze Festival. Anyone could pay $1 and cast a vote. Cormorant, population about 20, is located about 180 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. (Minnesota Public Radio) A 51-year-old Corcoran, Minn., woman was seriously injured the morning of Aug. 25 when her vehicle hit a trailer full of farm equipment on a road south of Pillager.According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, Peter Peterson, 76, of Pine River, was traveling south on Dove Road around 9:36 a.m. in a Dodge Ram truck, pulling a trailer full of farm equipment. Dianna Lindgren, of Corcoran, was traveling north on Dove Road in a Saturn sedan. Lindgren’s vehicle apparently crossed the center line and struck Peterson’s vehicle and trailer. Pillager Fire and Rescue extricated Lindgren from her vehicle. She was transported by North Memorial Air Care to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with serious injuries. Peterson was not injured. The incident is still under investigation.
